The Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre (QICDRC) has announced the appointment of Dr Talal Abdullah Al Emadi as a judge. Dr Al Emadi, currently the Dean of the College of Law at Qatar University, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the QICDRC, enhancing its mission to provide world-class legal and dispute resolution services.
Dr. Al Emadi is a distinguished legal scholar and practitioner with a notable career in both academia and the legal profession.
As a founding faculty member of Qatar University’s College of Law and the founder of the Oil and Gas Law course, he has significantly contributed to legal education in Qatar.
He focused on the legal aspects of petroleum investment, particularly emphasizing the importance of trust and long-term relationships between Qatar and international oil and gas companies.
Dr. Al Emadi also founded Qatar University Press, which achieved accreditation as a member of the Association of University Presses in less than four academic years.
Dr. Al Emadi holds a doctorate in law (DPhil) from the University of Oxford and a master’s degree in law (LLM) from Harvard University.
His research addressed critical issues such as joint venture agreements in the Qatari gas industry and the intersection of health, law, disability, and ethics.
He has also been instrumental in mentoring, coaching and training the first team to represent Qatar in the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition and later serving as a Judge in the same competition.
Beyond academia, Dr. Al Emadi has held various influential positions at national and international levels.
He has chaired the Mediation Division at the Qatar Sports Arbitration Tribunal, participated in numerous committees related to climate change, international law, and public sector leadership and served as a legal counsellor to the Minister of State for the Council of Ministers Affairs at the Amiri Diwan.
His international engagements include serving on the Harvard University IGLP Academic Council, the International Association of Law Schools Board, and the Editorial Board of the Oxford University Press Journal of World Energy Law & Business.
Dr. Al Emadi’s extensive knowledge, leadership, and commitment to excellence will greatly benefit the Court and its stakeholders.
