QNANew YorkQatar has stressed the importance of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) as an effective tool for collective security through the practical steps taken for the essential, fair, and balanced implementation of NPT’s three core pillars, calling for joint action towards achieving the entire goals of the treaty. This came during the statement of Qatar delivered by Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations HE Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani in the Tenth Review Conference of the Parties to the NPT being held in UN Headquarters in New York from Aug. 1 to 26, 2022.Sheikha Alya indicated that the review conference is being convened in a very complicated situation as nuclear weapons still pose a profound threat to mankind and the nonproliferation regime is exposed to numerous challenges, where the consecutive international crises and the global economic imbalances are adversely affecting the expansion and enhancement of the peaceful utilization of atomic energy, especially in the developing countries that suffer from the decline of the opportunities of sustainable development. page 4
