dpa BerlinAfter al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri was killed in Afghanistan in a targeted US airstrike, the Taliban have warned Washington against conducting further such operations. In a statement released by the militants on Thursday, the Taliban accused the US of breaking its peace agreement with the group, which took full control of the country last year.In the event of a repetition of such an operation, the US government would be responsible for any consequences, it said.Nearly a year ago, the US pulled all troops from Afghanistan in a chaotic withdrawal that put an end to international military operations in the country after almost 20 years. The Taliban and the US had negotiated the withdrawal under the condition that the Islamists would not allow al-Qaeda members to use Afghanistan as a hideout.
