In cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and Lusail University, the Centre for Empowerment and Care of the Elderly (Ehsan), an affiliate of the Ministry of Social Development and Family’s (MSDF) Qatar Social Work Foundation, concluded the 7th Research and Innovation Competition 2024.

The winning school students in the State of Qatar were honoured, who demonstrated their creativity in innovative scientific research related to the issues and needs of the elderly. They also expressed their pride and honour in this rich experience that recommends benevolence to the elderly, honouring parents, respecting and empowering them, and educating society about their rights.

The competition, which was organised under the auspices of Minister of Social Development and Family HE Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, aimed at highlighting the elderly, promoting a positive outlook toward them, benefiting from their experience, and activating their role in society.

The competition targeted 138 middle and high school students, who submitted 46 specialised research on issues of the elderly, supervised by an elite group of supervisors, and eight accredited arbitrators judged the research.

Assistant Undersecretary for Education Affairs at the MoEHE Maha Zayed Al Ruwaili praised Ehsan’s Research and Innovation Competition and its role in educating male and female students about the issues and needs of the elderly, presented by the Centre for Empowerment and Care of the Elderly (Ehsan). She emphasised that the ministry attaches great importance to building values among students and constantly enhancing them.

In turn, Executive Director of Ehsan Manal Ahmed Al Mannai said that the honouring ceremony came to crown the efforts of distinguished students in scientific research and innovation to serve the elderly, and is also an incentive for them to work and invest their energies and potential and harness them to serve all social groups, most important of which is the elderly.

The research participating in the competition included following the scientific approach that depends on defining the problem, asking questions, researching and reviewing all previous studies and research in the same field of research.

The 7th Research and Innovation Competition 2024 received a wide response from the contributions of school students in 37 government schools, as their distinguished research was displayed in a special exhibition at Lusail University.

The Planning and Development Office at Ehsan will classify all scientific research according to its nature, transcribe the recommendations contained therein, submit them to the relevant authorities in the country, and present them as proposals and recommendations that serve the elderly in Qatar.

The MoEHE encourages its students to participate in the Ehsan Scientific Research and Innovation Competition through their schools, urging them to adhere to its specific conditions when submitting scientific research, which includes innovation, integrity of the curriculum, and adherence to recognised research controls such as language, drafting, and documentation. The research should address a specific phenomenon or service related to the elderly, and provide suggested recommendations regarding it.
