Pakistani medical, dental and allied health professionals recently organised a grand Eid Milan gathering for the health-professionals and their families in Qatar.

This event preceded the first-ever grand gala dinner arranged in November 2023 for medical professionals of Pakistani origin.

The organising committee comprised Dr Khalil Shibli, Dr Monazza Ali, Dr Adeel Rasul, and Dr Amina Khalid with several trainee doctors from residency programmes at HMC, with the immense cooperation of Pakistani doctors’ community practicing in Qatar, showcased another extravagant event for their families as Eid Al-Fitr get-together.

The Eid Milan event was attended by more than 200 members and their families. The occasion was graced by the presence of Pakistan’s Ambassador to Qatar HE Dr Muhemmed Aejaz, and embassy officials.

The ambassador congratulated the organising committee, the guests, and the audience for their participation in rendering invaluable services in the State of Qatar, which has been highlighted on several occasions by government officials and dignitaries of the State of Qatar. The presence of more than 500 medics of Pakistani origin in Qatar in various health sectors was highlighted by him. The ambassador encouraged the doctors community to showcase their talent and medical innovations in a concerted manner by organising a separate event or a road show for the public.

The envoy also talked about a medical road show in Qatar with the help of medical and dental fraternity of Pakistani origin.

A well-organised event included ‘Meet & Greet’ in style by taking family photos on arrival and getting them printed on site as well, attracting a large number of guests to capture memories.

The family event turned out to be a big draw. There was a separate hall for children with orchestrated activities through professionals along with a movie show in a supervised environment. The seating was beautifully laid out with a sumptuous buffet dinner and entertainment for both children and adults. The entertainment included a colourful musical show by a local professional band which dazzled the participants with the magic of their high-quality performance. An extremely hearty, elaborate, and lavish buffet was well liked by the guests including the children.

“The ethos of the organising committee has been to bring the community together in our home away from home, Qatar, to provide and promote a sense of harmony and better networking between the community of the medics of Pakistani origin and the rest of the Pakistani community living in Qatar,” said Dr Monazza Ali.

Dr Amina Khalid said the medics have plans to extend the invite to a wider group of professionals of Pakistani origin in future.

Earlier, the master of ceremony, Dr Khalil Shibli, chairperson of Pakistan Cultural Forum Qatar, opened the ceremony in his usual witty style and invited speakers on the stage in a gracious manner.

Acknowledging interest of the ambassador in music and literature, Dr Shibli presented him with a book, ‘Great Masters-Pakistani Classical Music’, specially signed by the author S M Shahid for the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

The medical and dental professionals of Pakistani origin who attended the event work for PHCC and several other facilities of HMC, Sidra Medicine, Qatar University, and private healthcare facilities.

Those who attended the event included Prof Adil Mehmood, National Healthcare Advisor to the Minister of Public Health, Qatar; Prof Muhammad Waqar Azeem, Chair of Psychiatry/Child Psychiatry for Sidra Medical & Research Centre; and Prof Aftab Mohammad Umar, Chairman, Corporate Department of Emergency Medicine, HMC; along with senior consultants of various medical facilities in Qatar.

On behalf of the organising committee, Dr Shibli thanked the doctors who attended the event and specially thanked the ambassador, and the labour and commercial attaches of Pakistan embassy.
