As part of its 40th-year anniversary celebrations, the Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF) organised a series of events aimed at benefiting the community. One such event was a mobile medical camp conducted in collaboration with Aster DM Healthcare and Aster volunteers in Al Khor Industrial Area on April 26. In a commendable effort to prioritize the health and wellbeing of labourers, this initiative was the first of its kind in Qatar, bringing essential medical services directly to the labour community.

Approximately 200 labourers availed themselves of the services offered during the health camp. The primary focus was on crucial health checks, including fasting blood sugar, blood pressure and BMI assessments. During these examinations, 10 to 15 individuals were identified with elevated blood pressure and sugar levels and were promptly referred to Aster Medical Centre for further evaluation and treatment. Muhammed Kunhi, secretary of ICBF, emphasised the camp’s significance, stating, “The camp was very useful for the labourers, and we have plan to conduct more such camps in the future.”

Additionally, the introduction of ICBF insurance at the event saw several participants enrolling in the programme, further enhancing access to healthcare services for the labour community.

The health camp also prioritised anti-tobacco awareness, underscoring the importance of promoting healthier lifestyle choices among labourers.

ICBF MC members Shankar Goud and Kulwinder Singh, along with Deputy Manager - Marketing at Aster DM Healthcare Mohammed Ali Shihab, Senior Executive - Marketing at Aster DM Healthcare Midhun Raveendran, and Aster volunteers, actively supported the initiative, further highlighting the collaborative effort to improve the health outcomes of the labour force in the region.

This pioneering initiative exemplifies the commitment of organisations like ICBF and Aster DM Healthcare to address the healthcare needs of the labour community and underscores the importance of accessible and proactive healthcare interventions for Qatar’s workforce.
