Under the patronage of the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar University (QU) will celebrate its graduation ceremony of the 47th batch of students on Wednesday, May 8, for graduates of bachelor’s, diploma, master’s, doctorate and doctor of pharmacy degrees.

The graduation ceremony will include graduates of Summer 2023, Fall 2023 and Winter 2024, in addition to those who are expected to graduate by the end of Spring 2024.

The total number of graduates this year is 3,738 graduates, which includes 2,373 Qatari graduates.

The number of distinguished graduates reached 608, including 129 male and 479 female graduates.

HH the Amir will honour the distinguished male graduates at the students’ graduation ceremony. The distinguished female graduates will be honoured by Consort of HH the Amir HH Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani at the ceremony for distinguished female students.

During a press conference held in the new QU Student Affairs building, Dr Eiman Mustafawi, vice-president for Student Affairs, said: “The graduation of 3,738 male and female students this year reflects Qatar University’s commitment to its role in shaping a new generation of learners and qualified individuals ready to engage in the job market and contribute to nation-building.

“We believe that each graduate has a unique success story that represents the challenges they have faced and the achievements they have made during their academic journey, which will be reflected in the role they will play in the development and prosperity of society.”

Dr Mustafawi congratulated all the graduates of the 47th batch and noted that the organising committee of the graduation ceremony completed all the essential arrangements and preparations.

The graduates were contacted and invitations were sent to graduates and their families via e-mail.

The various teams and committees organising the ceremony confirmed their full readiness and eagerness to providing services for graduates and responding to their inquiries through various means, including university accounts on social media platforms, the Student Call Center and e-mail. In addition, a dedicated website is available as a reference, which includes all the information related to the details of the ceremony, dates and various information.

Dr Mustafawi extended her congratulations and best wishes to the graduates of the 47th batch for their achievements and successes, which were manifested in their hard work, dedication and perseverance to reach this important stage in their lives.

She said: “We are proud of the Class of 2024 and wish them a bright future filled with opportunities, challenges and experiences that will refine their skills and enable them to achieve their dreams. We encourage them to continue developing their skills and abilities, and to actively contribute to building both society and the nation.”

graduation gown Distribution

The university has announced the distribution of graduation gowns to all female graduates and the opportunity to purchase and pay for the gown electronically. The gown was distributed to the graduates on campus, with approximately 1,730 students receiving this year’s graduation uniform.

The unique design of the new graduation gown for female graduates is inspired by Qatar University’s logo which symbolises the intertwining of Islamic/Arabic heritage with the educational system, where the embroidered geometric shapes on the graduation cloak symbolise the authentic Islamic/Arabic heritage, which forms part of QU’s logo and represents a symbol of pride, while the maroon colour symbolises Qatar’s flag which corresponds to the history of the country and its civilisational dimension.

Rehearsals

Conducting the graduation rehearsal is an essential part of ensuring that the ceremony runs smoothly according to the schedule. This allows students to understand the protocol and procedures and for the ceremony to proceed according to the programme and within the planned timeframe.

During the rehearsal, graduates are provided with the most important instructions, such as registration, graduation gown protocol, as well as information related to the presence of parents and companions, and other important information. The graduates also learn about the details of the ceremony programme, the method of sitting in the approved order and the mechanism of ascending to the podium according to their colleges and degrees.

Graduation website

The website is one of the most important sources through which accurate and comprehensive information about the graduation ceremony is provided, which is very important for both students and parents. The site includes information such as dates, location, graduation gowns, invitation cards, services provided to the public during the ceremony, entrance gates, parking lots and others.

The organising committee regularly updates the website to include all the necessary details and is a key source of communication between the university, students and parents. https://www.qu.edu.qa/sites/en_US/conference/graduation-2024
