Qatar Charity (QC) has received a generous donation of QR100,000 from Malabar Gold & Diamonds in Qatar. The contribution aims to support the treatment of a baby battling Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type-1. Additionally, Qatar Charity has appealed to philanthropists to complete the required funds for this rare and urgent humanitarian case, amounting to approximately QR12 million.

This contribution reflects Malabar Gold & Diamonds’ corporate social responsibility (CSR).Ahmad Yousef Fakhroo, CEO’s assistant for the Resources Development and Media Sector at Qatar Charity, received the donation cheque from Santhosh Thazhathadavanveed, regional head – Qatar at Malabar Gold & Diamonds for the treatment of the baby Malkha Rouhi fighting (SMA) Type-1.

Ahmad Yousef Fakhroo, CEO’s assistant for the Resources Development and Media Sector at Qatar Charity, stated, “The baby is suffering from an extremely rare disease that requires highly expensive treatment.” He highlighted the significant response received by Qatar Charity’s fundraising campaign for her treatment from companies, institutions, and individuals, both citizens and residents. He also wished her a speedy recovery and expressed heartfelt gratitude to Malabar Gold & Diamonds for their generous donation, urging other companies and individuals to contribute to completing the required amount for the baby’s treatment.

Santhosh Thazhathadavanveed, regional head – Qatar at Malabar Gold & Diamonds, said, “As part of our corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, we are pleased to extend our support to Malkha Rouhi, diagnosed with SMA Type-1. Our ultimate goal is to see Malkha recover swiftly, regain her health, and bring joy to her parents.”He also expressed his delight in collaborating with Qatar Charity on this initiative, noting that the company, as part of its corporate social responsibility, focuses on providing support in various areas, including healthcare.

Malkha Rouhi, a 4-month-old infant currently residing in Qatar, has been diagnosed with SMA Type-1 and needs very expensive medicines and gene therapy. Patients diagnosed with SMA Type-1 experience progressive muscle weakness, respiratory failure, and swallowing difficulties. Without treatment, the majority of these patients do not survive beyond their first year of life.

Qatar Charity has launched a fundraising campaign for the treatment of this rare case, urging individuals and companies to contribute to providing the necessary treatment to save her life. Donations can be made to the campaign through the following link: qch.qa/malkha.
