The Jassim Bin Hamad Secondary School for Boys recently held the first Jassim Bin Hamad Chess Championship in cooperation with Al Rayyan Club and under the aegis of Qatar Chess Association.

The tournament saw a large participation of 70 players from secondary schools with Muhammad Mustafa of Tariq Bin Ziyad Secondary School for Boys emerging as the winner. Mazen Ahmed of Ahmed Bin Hanbal Secondary School for Boys was the runners-up while Omar Hossam of Omar Bin Abdulaziz Secondary School for Boys was third.

The top ten students were honoured with in-kind gifts and certificates of appreciation with the top three schools being awarded the championship cups.

On the occasion, Khaled Saleh Al Qahtani, Director, Jassim Bin Hamad Secondary School for Boys, said that the chess helps in developing students’ minds and is also a sport that drives cultural interest, noting that it is obligatory and educational at the same time.

Qatar Chess Association Secretary-General Yousef Mohammed Al Mutawa promised to provide all support and care to the talented students in chess who were seen during the tournament. Faisal Mohammed Al Hammadi, head of the youth wing of Al Rayyan Sports Club, praised the strong competition and the participation.
