DOHA: The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Education Above All Foundation (EAA) and Global Partnership for Education (GPE) have teamed up to support education in Haiti with a five-year project, by increasing access to quality education for vulnerable children, Including those at-risk of dropping out of primary education, out-of-school children and students with disabilities.

The $44 million grant for the five-year project will support the Ministry of National Education (MENFP) in achieving results by strengthening its information management system, enabling effective curriculum reform and high-quality sector management. The project will also address the economic and food insecurity context of Haitian households by providing school feeding, and improving attendance and retention through remedial classes, reintegrating children into schools, and enhancing the quality of teaching and learning.

This partnership between Education Above All, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the Global Partnership for Education represents a firm commitment to addressing the educational crisis in Haiti, by combining resources and expertise, and to creating positive and lasting change for Haitian children and their communities.

“Our commitment to Haiti remains steadfast,” said Ilan Goldfine, President of the Inter-American Development Bank. “Together with EAA, the Global Partnership for Education and other partners, we are working to strengthen marginalized youth’s access to quality education, school feeding, remedial classes, and improving attendance and retention to support Haitian youth building a better future.”

For his part, Fahd Al-Sulaiti, CEO of the Education Above All Foundation, said: “Supporting access to and continuation of quality primary education in Haiti is not only a moral imperative but a strategic investment that contributes to the country’s stability and long-term development.” He added: “This partnership is a big step forward in our mission to ensure that the most vulnerable children - regardless of their circumstances - have access to education, and by joining forces, we are strengthening our impact to reach more marginalized and out-of-school children in Haiti.”

Laura Fregenti, CEO of the Global Partnership for Education, said: “Our support for Haiti’s children, through access to schools, textbooks and qualified teachers, is more important than ever to counter the impact of insecurity in the country, and together with our partners, the Global Partnership for Education remains committed "We will strongly build a more resilient education system in Haiti so that the most marginalized girls and boys can learn and build better lives for themselves and their communities."

Last April 19, President Goldfein and Education Above All CEO Fahad Al Sulaiti signed an agreement to renew the partnership and move forward with this project.
