Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is response for current tensions between Israel and Iran.

“We see that the dangers we have tried to prevent over the past seven months are happening one by one. The incidents we experienced over the weekend showed that the West is failing in its responsibilities. It would be unfair and unjust to assess the situation based only on the events of the night of April 13. Since October 7, the Israeli government has been taking provocative steps to fuel the fire in the region,” Erdogan said in his address to the nation after a government meeting.

According to the Turkish president, the Israeli attack on the Iranian diplomatic mission in Damascus in early April became the latest incident that sparked tensions.

“Those who did not raise their voices against Israel’s aggressive behaviour immediately rushed to condemn Iran’s retaliation. In this case, Netanyahu himself should be the first to be condemned,” Erdogan said.

Erdogan also said that Turkey has decided not to sell any military goods to Israel long time ago.

“Turkey was the first country to impose an embargo on exports to Israel. Nevertheless, our government has been subjected to unjust, false accusations. ... Long before the massacre [the war in the Gaza Strip], Turkey did not authorize the sale to Israel of any goods that could be used for military purposes,” Erdogan added.
