Every year, volunteers in Qatar take part in the Traffic Awareness and Ramadan Iftar Drive (TARID). This campaign is powered by Aljaber Optician, inspired by Qatar Volunteers, and led by Mildred Ngoaban Lloren.

This year, the organisations held their 12th TARID initiative. This Ramadan drive was inspired by the Qatar Living Volunteers group in 2010 and organised by Lloren since 2011. It was stalled in 2020 up to 2021 in observance of the National Public Health restrictions due to the emergence of COVID-19 pandemic.

“Organizing this event is a deep reflection and realization of the benevolence of the host country to its residents and citizens. It is our way of showing our great appreciation to Qatar,” said Lloren.

Al Jaber Opticians became the sole sponsor of this annual event. A locally renowned optical company in Qatar, it provides optical services including routine vision tests and various eyewears from its own in-house and luxury brands.

Last April 5, the company sponsored the community’s 12th TARID, which was supported by volunteers from the different expatriate organizations.

Almost 3,500 Iftar packs were distributed to the motorists at the different signal junctions including Toyota, Ramada and Bin Omran Signals. A total of 295 volunteers from different Nationalities, including Filipinos, Nepalis, Pakistanis, Sri Lankans and Indians who have cooperated and joined forces leading to the resounding success of the event.

The main purposes of the event are to campaign traffic awareness and safe driving to prevent any road accidents caused by reckless driving, to provide food and drinks for the Iftar to all the motorists, especially those who are fasting during the month of Ramadan and to unify the community social welfare advocates.

The programme concluded with a thanksgiving dinner after the Iftar packs distribution.

The volunteer community members who supported the event were GUARDIANS Legion Qatar (GLQ), Qatar Volunteers Group and other community groups in the country.
