In a significant stride towards improving responsible management education, a faculty member from Qatar University (QU) has been appointed as the Head of Curriculum for the Middle East chapter of the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME). Dr Hany Kamel, Associate Professor of Accounting in the Department of Accounting and Information Systems at QU’s College of Business and Economics (CBE), brings with him extensive experience and a commitment to advancing the principles of responsible management within the education sector.

Dr Rana Sobh, Dean of the College of Business and Economics at QU, expressed pride in Dr Hany Kamel’s selection as the Head of Curriculum, emphasising his exceptional experience and unwavering commitment. She stated, “We are immensely proud of Dr Hany Kamel’s appointment as the Head of Curriculum for the Middle East chapter of the PRME. His exceptional expertise and unwavering commitment make him an ideal candidate for this pivotal role. Under his leadership, we are confident that our curricula will continue to progress and remain aligned with responsible management principles, thus preparing our students to tackle the challenges that lie ahead.”

Dr Hany Kamel emphasised his dedication to influencing the trajectory of management education in the region, stating, “It is a great honour for me to accept the role of Head of Curriculum for the Middle East chapter of the PRME. This position offers a powerful opportunity to influence the trajectory of management education in our Arab region. I look forward to earnest collaboration with my colleagues to ensure our curricula’s adherence to responsible management principles and meeting the needs of our students and the community in line with our principles.”

Dr Hany Kamel has been a distinguished faculty member at QU since 2013, with significant academic impact. He holds a PhD in Accounting and Finance from Cardiff Business School, United Kingdom, awarded in 2006. In 2018, he was honoured with the title of Honorary Visiting Fellow at the School of Management, University of Bradford, United Kingdom. Dr Kamel’s research interests span a wide range, including financial reporting, market-based accounting research, corporate governance, and performance measurement, as evidenced by his numerous articles in high-impact academic journals, demonstrating his commitment to advancing knowledge in the field.

It is noteworthy that Dr Hany Kamel has been honoured as a certified sustainability professional by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) based on the global standards of the GRI for the year 2021. This award underscores his dedication to sustainability and responsible business practices, aligning seamlessly with the objectives of the Middle East branch of Responsible Management Education Principles.

As the newly appointed Head of Curriculum, Dr Hany Kamel is poised to lead initiatives that engage the broader community and shape the future of management education in the Middle East. His role is not just about academic excellence but also about fostering a sense of responsibility and sustainability among the future leaders of the business world.
