DOHA: The Public Works Authority 'Ashghal' hasannounced the completion of the implementation of the first package of the Roads and Infrastructure Development Project in East Al Wajbah, which aims to provide integrated road and infrastructure services to the residents of this vital area, as part of the Authority’s efforts to serve all parts of the country with infrastructure developed and building a sustainable future in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.

EngFahd Mohammed Al-Otaibi, Head of the Western Regions Department in the Road Projects Department at Ashghal, explained that the Authority is implementing a plan that includes two packages to develop the East Al Wajbah area, as it has already completed the first package, which serves about 388 plots for citizens’ plots. The two packages will provide all services, including road networks, sewage networks, rainwater drainage, and other important services for the residents of the region.

Regarding the work of the first package that the Authority recently completed, EngAbdullah Al Suwaidi, project engineer in the Western Regions Department of the Roads Projects Department, stated that it included the construction of a 17-kilometre road network to enhance the flow of traffic and provide connectivity with public facilities that will be established in the region in the future. In addition to providing traffic safety elements, such as street lighting systems and poles, directional signs and road markings, in addition to providing shared paths for pedestrians and bicycles with a length of 29km and more than 2,800 designated parking spaces.

As for the development of infrastructure services, it included providing a sewage network with a length of 14km, a surface and groundwater drainage network with a length of 16.6km, and a treated water network with a length of 8.4km, as well as extending potable water pipes and connecting them to the main drinking water network.

It is worth noting that local materials and manufacturers were relied upon for most of the work of the first package, bringing the percentage of the local component to 70 percentof the total materials used, as materials and elements such as lighting poles and lamps, directional signs, signs, traffic signs, sewage pipes, rainwater drainage, asphalt, and pre-made manholes were supplied by local manufactures in addition to concrete, rebar and other materials.

In 2022, Ashghal announced the completion of the project to develop and prepare the Wadi Reserve in the East Al Wajba area. The completed work included enhancing plant life in the reserve by planting 836 trees and constructing lines for the irrigation network. A 1.5-kilometre-long metal fence was also constructed around the reserve and provided threegates north, south and east of the reserve to provide entrances to it and facilitate access to it. The reserve was also provided with benches for visitors, bicycle parking, and an advanced lighting system was installed, in addition to providing two areas designated for prayer, creating 1.1 kilometers of paths designated for pedestrians and bicycles, and 1.1 kilometers of paths designated for running.
