Aemilianus, ridden by Marco Casamento in the silks of Sheikh Mohamed bin Salman M Al Thani, won the Group 2 HH Sheikh Mohamed Bin Khalifa Al Thani Trophy, Thursday’s late night feature race for Thoroughbreds at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club.

The five-year-old son of Holy Roman Emperor, took his career to a new level when he powered to victory by a length ahead of Julian Smart’s charge King Pacha. With this black-type victory, the bay gelding completed a double in the evening for trainer Jassim Ghazali.

Jockey Szczepan Mazur seemed unstoppable as he registered his third consecutive win and his 4th in the evening, guiding the Khalifa bin Sheail KHJ Al Kuwari-owned Layeq to success in the Ebraz Cup. Trained by Julian Smart, the five-year-old horse came nicely clear of his rivals in the closing stages of the 2000m race to win by 1¼ lengths.

Mazur also guided Al Buraq to edge the fast-finishing Harb by a neck for Gazwan Cup victory and in the process completed a hat trick of wins with Al Jeryan Stud, and trainer MHK Al Attiyah.

Al Jeryan Stud, and al-Attiyah and Mazur landed their second success of the evening as AJS Lattam won the Mared Al Sahra Cup with ease. Mazur looked confident aboard the four-year-old colt, who stretched 5½ lengths clear of his nearest rival Wathnan Racings’ Toufik in the straight.

Al Jeryan Stud’s homebred AJS Jassas got back to winning ways in the second race of the day, landing the Djendel Novice Cup. Mazur was on board the four-year-old gelding and they won with 2¼ lengths to spare. The Al Attiyah’s trainee has never been outside the first four in all his eight starts so far.

Injaaz Stud’s Kerindia retained the Assy Thoroughbred Filly & Mare Cup for the second straight year. Faleh Bughanaim rode the four-year-old filly to quicken away smartly from her rivals and win impressively by 3½ lengths for trainer Zuhair Mohsen, who registered his second win in the evening.

HE Sheikha Iman bint Mohamed bin Khalifa Al Thani’s Fayq Al Shahania won the Aziz Purebred Arabian Handicap Cup. Rudy Nerbonne saddled the five-year-old to lead his rivals home. Partnered by Lukas Delozier, the roan horse won the 1400m race by 1½ lengths.

Injaaz Stud-owned Ends Of The Earth won the Jaafar Thoroughbred Handicap Cup. The four-year-old colt under jockey Anas Al Seyabi gave trainer Zuhair Mohsen the title for the second year in a row with a 1½-length-victory.

In the meet opener, the Al Rufaa Racing-owned Tareq shed his maiden tag at fourth time of asking, as the Jassim Ghazali-trained four-year-old gelding took the Mared Al Sahra Premium Maiden Cup, under jockey Alberto Sanna, confirming his very promising efforts in his previous starts.
