PORT SUDAN: Minister of State for International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs HE Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater has held an expanded meeting in the city of Port Sudan in the Republic of Sudan with officials of the United Nations agencies and international organisations operating there.

Governor of the Red Sea State Mustafa Mohammed Nour, Federal Minister of Health Dr Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim and Ambassador of Qatar to Sudan HE Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Sada attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed the current difficult situation in Sudan, especially the challenges facing the humanitarian work in general, the significance of the urgent response to address them, in addition to intensifying the efforts aimed at delivering aid to the Sudanese people, especially the displaced people in various Sudanese states.

In statements to Qatar News Agency (QNA), the Minister of State for International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that during the meeting she urged the United Nations institutions to significantly operate to reach out to largely difficult regions in this sister country, stressing that countries that pledged sums of money at the donor conference in Geneva held in May 2023 should live up to their pledges to Sudan.

The other message that was highlighted during the meeting focused on the importance of synergistic efforts of the international organizations in Sudan in collaboration with their Sudanese counterparts, in addition to reminding the states through the international platforms of the priority given to the Sudanese file, she pointed out.

She added that the talk centred on the largest displacement crisis worldwide, but unfortunately, it was a forced displacement due to the current conditions.

The Minister of State for International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted that it was unfathomable that the Sudanese file would become a low-profile issue on the international agenda, stressing that diplomatic efforts should be intensified to return Sudan to that agenda.
