Minister of State for International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs HE Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater has renewed Qatar’s firm position in support of Sudan’s unity, security and stability as Doha resumed humanitarian airbridge with Sudan.

“Today’s visit to Sudan comes to remind the world that seems to have forgotten the devastating human tragedy that this great country and its dear, generous people are going through. We also renew the firm position of the State of Qatar towards brotherly Sudan and the dear Sudanese people in support of their unity, security, stability and the aspirations of their people,” Al Khater said in a post on X platform.

Al Khater said, “On Saturday, we resumed the humanitarian airbridge with Sudan, which will continue throughout the Holy Month ofRamadan, carrying food, shelter tents, and ambulances. The State of Qatar began this air bridge last year, under the directives of His Highness the Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to deliver humanitarian support and evacuate Sudanese residents to Qatar.”

She said, “We also launched the food baskets campaign between the Qatar Fund for Development and Qatar Charity, which aims to deliver 50,000 baskets, of which 20,000 have already been distributed.”

She said last year Qatar pledged to allocate $50 million for relief in Sudan, and it continues with various campaigns and projects at the official and civil levels through the Qatar Red Crescent and Qatar Charity.

“During the visit, I met with representatives of the UN and international institutions in Sudan to learn about the developments and to urge them to take action and remind the international community of its duties towards the largest forced displacement crisis the world is witnessing today. We urge all donor countries that announced their pledges last May, which amounted to about $1.5 billion, to work hard to fulfill the pledges despite the existing logistical and security difficulties and not to use this as an excuse for not seeking to fulfill their pledges,” Al Khater said.

Finally, I confirm that the security and stability of Sudan is part of the security and stability of the Arab region and Africa. Therefore, we call for sincere concerted efforts to find an urgent, peaceful solution to this ongoing fighting. We also call for the provision of safe humanitarian corridors and to stop targeting food and medicine warehouses and supply chains, which has obstructed and continues to hinder access to regions in need.
