DOHA: Al Jazeera Media Institute, a subsidiary of Al Jazeera Media Network, on Sunday celebrated the 20th anniversary of its founding.

The ceremony was held in the presence of Chairman of Board of Directors of Al Jazeera Media Network, HE Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer Al Thani, Acting Director General of the network DrMostefa Souag, alongside a lineup of guests, directors of Al Jazeera Media Network departments and staffers of a variety of sectors.

Addressing the ceremony, Director of Al Jazeera Media Institute Iman Al Ameri said the institute has been at the top priorities of Al Jazeera Media Network because talents that are not nurtured will diminish, impermanence is the only constant in the journalism profession, and excellence that did not come from anywhere, should not be left to coincidence.

Over 20 years, the institute has organized 6,500 training sessions with the participation of over 75,500 trainees, third of them are Qatari and over 21,000 from the Network staffers, Al Ameri emphasized, pointing out that the institute has been keeping up with the evolution in journalism profession through holding conferences and forums that discuss the reality and future of the profession, converging holders of academic expertise and offering the technology for media circles and major technological firms under one umbrella to discuss challenges, opportunities and the impacts arising from combining technology with the profession of journalism.

She highlighted that Al Jazeera Media Network won seven gold awards, three Viddy international Awards and four AVA Digital Awards, emphasizing that these awards were the culmination of the steadfast work and great milestones the institute has achieved throughout 20 years of training and development.
