For Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) in Qatar, working abroad is no excuse to not volunteer.

The dedication of Filipinos for volunteerism is evident through the number of international events that take place across the country. One of the Filipino community leaders and event volunteers in Qatar who can attest to this is Felipe Davila Catinoy.

From FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 to the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023, Catinoy joined thousands of Filipinos who volunteered their time and effort for the success of these world-class tournaments.

A civil engineer by profession, he also took part in the International Horticultural Expo 2023 in Doha, World Aquatics Championships Doha 2024, and the recently concluded Doha Marathon by Ooredoo as a volunteer.

Last week, Catinoy, who is also the Committee Chairperson of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers Qatar Chapter (PICE Qatar), served as one of the Pinoy volunteers at the Qatar Museum for the Qatar Sports Day event held last Tuesday.

Volunteering is Catinoy’s way to show his support to the country for being his second home for many years now.

Through the ‘bayanihan’ spirit – the concept of working as one to attain a common good – volunteerism has become OFWs’ way of life to give back to the community
