Qatar’s Olympic and world high jump champion Mutaz Essa Barshim has called on sports fans to back the Al Annabi at the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 and encourage the team at their matches helping them to do the best in defending the title they won in 2019.
Barshim told Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the national team is capable of achieving success and making the Qatari fans happy again, it just needs support and support from the stands and continued encouragement until the players regain their confidence in their ability to win the second title, pointing out that public support must be from the very beginning when the national team play Lebanon in the opening match of the tournament at the Lusail Stadium on Friday.
Barshim also stressed on the high technical value of the tournament, as it includes strong teams participating with the goal of winning the title, especially the teams like South Korea, Japan, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and others. Therefore, a strong stance from the fans is necessary.
Barshim pointed out the importance of public support for the team, especially since a number of Asian teams have broad fan bases that can provide an incentive for them to compete for the title.
The Qatari Olympic champion considered the tournament a great opportunity for Qatar fans to express their support for the team that delighted everyone by winning the title four years ago and has a chance to repeat the achievement again.
