A plane from Doha carrying medical equipment for the field hospitals being set up by Qatar in Beirut reached the Lebanese capital on Monday.
One of the field hospitals set up by Qatar at the Roum Hospital compound will start receiving people injured in the explosion at the city's port, on Tuesday.
The Lebanese Army Commander, General Joseph Aoun, had recently toured the field hospital and was briefed on the construction progress of the hospital that will be fully equipped when it begins operations.
Qatar had air-dashed planeloads of medical supplies, including two field hospitals, to Lebanon after the devastating blasts. Qatar’s Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) has sent a search and rescue team to Lebanon after deadly explosions that killed more than 130 people and wreaked widespread damage. The team began their operations in Beirut on Friday.
The team is among the several assistance Qatar extended to Lebanon, on the orders of the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Besides, the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has initiated an immediate response to the explosion in Beirut. Under an approval from the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities (RACA), QRCS launched a fundraising campaign titled “Heart for Lebanon” to support the Lebanese people.
Qatar has also reached out to Lebanese nationals holding Qatari Residency Permits (IDs). The Government Communications Office on Thursday said Qatar would give priority to Lebanese nationals with Qatar IDs, who are currently in the country and wishing to return to Qatar, under the exceptional entry permit (EEP) programme.
