The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) will open the first technical high school for girls in Qatar next September.
Qatar’s Technical High School for Girls will have an inaugural class of 90 students.
The new school will play a major role in enhancing the technical and vocational education landscape and expand the contribution of Qatari women in national development.
In a statement, the ministry said the school is established to provide the local labour market with the necessary pool of academically and technically qualified female cadres, promote women’s technical training, create equal job opportunities for males and females, and increase the number of Qatari women employed in technical fields.
During the first academic year, the school aims to attract 90 girls who have completed grade 9 successfully.
Admissions will be open for Qatari nationals, children of Qatari mothers or children born in Qatar.
Students who meet the admissions requirements will be eligible to attend grade 10 in the next academic year.
Online registration will be open from August 16 to September 3, 2020.
Applicants should submit all the required documents (paper copy) at the beginning of the academic year.
The school's educational plan consists of an academic and technical subject to prepare students for post-secondary education and a successful career path.
The academic subjects will include Islamic studies, Arabic, Mathematics, English, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Science, Social Science and Physical Education. The technical subjects, however, will be taught based on the students’ discipline of choice.
The technical majors to be offered for grade 10 students are laboratory technicians, electronics and communications, and information technology (networks engineering).
Upon successful completion of the programme, students will graduate with secondary school examination certificates in addition to the Australian International TAFE Certificate for those specialized in Medical Laboratories, and Electronics and Communications. IT students will graduate with secondary school examination certificate and Microsoft Network Engineering Certificate.
These certificates will qualify the school’s graduates to apply for technical or non-technical university programmes in Qatar or abroad, or directly join the labor market.
