Having rushed to the aid of blast-hit Beirut with planeloads of urgent medical supplies, Qatar has now reached out to Lebanese nationals holding Qatari Residency Permits (IDs).
The Government Communications Office on Thursday said Qatar would give priority to Lebanese nationals with Qatar IDs, who are currently in that country and wishing to return to Qatar, under the exceptional entry permit (EEP) programme. The EEP is a temporary service that helps Qatar residents and their families stuck overseas due to COVID-19 return to the country.
The GCO announcement comes after Prime Minister and Minister of Interior His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani issued a directive in this regard.
Lebanese holders of Qatar Residency Permits will also be able to apply for entry for their immediate family members at the Qatar Embassy in Beirut or via Metrash 2.
All Lebanese nationals arriving in Qatar will be required to take a coronavirus test upon arrival to the Hamad International Airport and are required to adhere to the previously announced quarantine procedures.
All arrivals in Qatar are required to download and install the COVID-19 contact-tracing app Ehteraz on their smartphones.
Lebanon's cabinet declared a two-week state of emergency in the capital city and handed control of security in the capital to the military following a massive explosion in Beirut that killed at least 135 people and injured 5,000 others.
The explosion on Tuesday sent shockwaves across the city, causing widespread damage as far as the outskirts of Beirut.
As per the directives of His Highness the Amir of State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar swiftly sent several Air Force planes with aid materials, including two field hospitals, and search and rescue teams to Lebanon.
