The first repatriation flight to Ghana left Hamad International Airport on Friday morning with 226 Ghanaian expatriates onboard.
The expatriates left aboard Ethiopian Airlines chartered plane around 3am to Accra via Addis Ababa.
Ghanaian Ambassador to Qatar HE Emmanuel Enos and a number of his Staff, together with the Chairman of the Ghanaian Community Stephen Adjei were at the airport to ensure a smooth departure formality and bid the evacuees farewell.
Speaking to Qatar Tribune the ambassador said, “With the advent of COVID-19 pandemic and its attendant economic and social challenges, many Ghanaian workers were left stranded in Qatar. The Government of Ghana, through its Embassy in Doha and the Executives of the Ghanaian Community organised an evacuation exercise for all the stranded Ghanaians, numbering 226 to depart Doha through the Hamad International Airport, via Ethiopian Airlines Flight,on Friday, July 31, 2020.”
He said ?the whole repatriation arrangements were found impressively successful, largely due to the immense cooperation which the Embassy received from Qatar’s Foreign Ministry, through its warm and hardworking Chief of Protocol, Ambassador Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhro and his Staff as well as other relevant Qatari Institutions.
“Without a doubt, the resounding success of the evacuation exercise is a testament to the existing cordial bilateral relations between the two friendly countries. The Embassy of Ghana in Qatar is hopeful that the existing bonds of friendship between Ghana and the State of Qatar would continue to be strengthened and deepened, even further, in the coming years for the mutual benefit of the two countries. Long live Ghana! long live Qatar! Long live Ghana-Qatar relations!”, said the ambassador.
