The Planning and Statistics Authority has released the 77th issue of (Qatar; Monthly Statistics) bulletin, a series of statistical newsletters released on a monthly basis. In the latest issue, PSA highlighted the most important statistical changes that occurred in the country during May 2020 in addition to extracts from the results of the 2015 Census.
The most prominent change in May 2020 is the consumption of electricity and water has increased, as the rate of increase in the use of electricity reached 24.8% over the month of April 2020, and water consumption increased by 12.6% during the same period.
Real estate sector has also declined, as the number of building permits issued in May decreased by 43.9% compared to April 2020, and by 58.9% compared to May 2019. Likewise, the number of sold properties in May has fallen by 16.3% compared to April 2020, and by 45.6 % compared to May 2019.
The demographic statistics revealed that the total population of Qatar has increased from 2.740 million during May 2019 to 2.808 million at end of May 2020.
Regarding to Vital Statistics, 1370 live births have been registered during May 2020. Also, an increase in the total Qatari live births by 90.8% compared to last month. On the other hand, 238 deaths were recorded during the same period, an increase of 43.4% compared to April 2020.
Moreover, May 2020 has experienced a monthly increase by 10.0% in marriage contracts and while the divorce certificates stay as it is. The total number of marriage contracts was 165 contracts, whereas the total No. of divorces has reached 12 divorce cases; namely, one divorce for every 14 marriages.
As for the Social Security statements, reached 85 Million Qatari Riyals in May 2020, for 15514 beneficiaries, Recording a monthly increase of 0.4% and 0.7% for the value of social security and the number of beneficiaries, respectively
Total electricity consumption during May 2020 was 3978.2 GWh attaining a monthly increase of 24.8% and an annual decrease of 5.5%. While the total water consumption has reached 58067.0 Thousand m3 during the same month attaining a monthly increase of 12.6% and an annual rise of 4.6%.
Regarding the data of buildings permits issued, the total number of permits has reached 271 permits during May 2020, recording a monthly decrease of 43.9%.
Traffic accidents cases without counting the accidents without injuries, a total of 332 traffic cases were recorded during May 2020, showing a monthly increase of 0.9%. Light injuries are accounted for the vast majority of traffic accidents cases during the same month, with 90%, followed by severe injuries by 7%. However, 11 deaths were recorded, equivalent to only 3% of total traffic accidents cases.
The total number of registered new vehicles during May 2020 has reached 1878 new vehicles. The figure showed a monthly decrease of 25.9% and an annual decrease of 66.8%.
As for the Banking Sector; Total Broad Money Supply (M2) recorded about 583.4 Billion Qatari Riyals during May 2020, an annual increase of 5.1% compared with May 2019. On the other hand, cash equivalents; including Commercial Bank Deposits, attained for 864.4 Billion Qatari Riyals during May 2020. The figure has recorded an annual increase of 7.2% compared to May 2019, when deposits recorded approximately 806.3 Billion Qatari Riyals.
