Qatar has outperformed rest of its peers in the Middle East and North Africa in this year’s Global Peace Index (GPI).
Ranked 27 globally in 2020, Qatar had jumped three places from last year with a score of 1.616, according to the Institute of Economics and Peace in Australia.
The GPI ranks 163 independent states and territories according to their level of peacefulness.
Qatar is ranked first in the Arab world and 16 globally among 163 countries in the axis of the most secure and socially peaceful countries.
Qatar is also ranked 161 globally (a reverse indicator) among the countries that are least affected by violence.
The most prominent axes in which Qatar has achieved high evaluation rates are: low rates of committing murders and acts of violence, the extent of crime in society and the stability of political conditions, and a society free from terrorism and its effects, the absence of threats or conflicts, whether internal or external)
Qatar achieved many successes at the global level in 2020, leading to it being ranked 27 globally in GPI, the Ministry of Interior has said in a tweet. This is an extension of its excellence in many of the global reports and indicators during the past years, it added.
“The ranking reflects Qatar's position in the world in the field of security, which came in line with Qatar's National Vision 2030 and the Ministry of Interior's strategy to enhance security and safety at the national level.”
