Active COVID-19 cases in Qatar fell below the 30,000th mark on Saturday as more than 5,000 patients recovered in the past 24 hours for the second straight day.
However, Saturday also saw 2,355 more people testing positive for COVID-19, the country’s biggest single-day jump so far.
According to the Ministry of Public Health's latest COVID-19 figures, 5,235 people made recovery on Saturday. With this, the active cases fell from 32,267 on Friday to 29,387 on Saturday. No new death was reported in the last 24 hours.
The reason for the large increase in the number of recoveries is due to the application of the latest international recommendations regarding criteria for recovering from COVID-19 infection, which was approved by the Ministry of Public Health.
Over the last 24 hours, 18 new patients were admitted to intensive care units, bringing the total number of cases currently in ICUs to 217.
