Emergency Departments at Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Hamad General Hospital (HGH) and Al Wakrah Hospital received a total of 651 cases on the first day of Eid Al-Fitr.
Most of the cases were related to gastrointestinal tract as a result of change in food habits, following Ramadan.
Of the cases HGH attended to 291 males and 140 females. Al Wakrah ED received a total of 220 cases including 186 males and 34 females.
Among these cases a total of 39 were admissions in both places.
It is worth to note that these cases are not related to coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Speaking to Qatar Tribune HMC Consultant of Emergency Medicine, Medical Toxicologist and Vice Chairman for Corporate Affairs of HMC Department of Emergency Medicine Dr Galal Alessai said that all the cases were simple to moderate and there were no critical ones.
He reiterated that there were less of cases this year. “ Most of the people nowadays are at home following the directives of the MoPH to be safe and to limit the spread of the COVID-19.
According to him, most of the cases were related to gastrointestinal system because of the changes in the food habits and the cases were so simple and were discharged.
These cases were such as abdominal distension, abdominal pain, gastroenteritis, joint pains, headache, chronic issues, follow-up for medication and minor injuries. “Headache cases were as a result of change in food habits. Around 3 cases were cardiac-related while six were for surgery.”
According to Dr Alessai some of the cases were moderate where the patients stayed in the hospital for a few hours for treatment and discharged. “There were only a few admissions and none of them were critical. Most of them were discharged after a few hours of staying in the hospital.”
HGH saw 16 admissions while Al Wakrah had 23.
He said there were a number of health centres and a few hospitals for the workers were open which decreased the number of people going to the to the Emergency Department on Sunday.
