COVID-19 is not an ordinary disease; it should be taken seriously, said 55-year-old Ali al Ahbabi, who beat the coronavirus after a battle that lasted two months.
A diabetic, Ahbabi tested positive for the virus when a high-fever drove him to a health centre. In four days, he was moved to a hospital.
“I stayed in the ICU for two consecutive weeks,” he told Qatar TV in an interview.
“It was a difficult experience. I infected nine of my family members,” he added.
Recounting his experience in the hospital, Ahbabi said he witnessed the frontline efforts of the healthcare professionals in Qatar in fighting the coronavirus and extending the best possible care to citizens and residents.
Mohammed al Kaabi, a 34-year-old man who suffered the COVID-19 infection for 25 days said, “Those were one of the most difficult days in my life. I pray to God that this fate don’t befall on anyone else.”
Kaabi said he went to a health centre after he developed a cough. “They gave me cough medication, but I started wondering if I had COVID-19. As a precaution, I went on self-isolation for around five days.
When the course of the medicine was over, Kaabi went back to the health centre. As the symptoms persisted, he was advised to contact Qatar’s COVID-19 hotline, 16000.
He was tested positive for the virus.
“When the symptoms got worse, I called them back and an ambulance was sent to me as fast as they could,” he said.
Of the 25 days, he remained infected, Kaabi said he spent two weeks in the ICU.
“I was not aware that my mother, sister and our maid were also infected. I was completely unconscious in the ICU.”
After Kaabi and his family members recovered, they decided to follow the health instructions inside their house, such as wearing face masks and keeping a safe distance from one another.
Urging people not to underestimate the virus, Kaabi said, “Do not be the reason for harming your family members.”
