A paediatric surgeon at the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) who has recovered from COVID-19 called on the public in Qatar not to panic, or underestimate the virus, as he shared his story in an interview aired on Qatar TV.
Thanking the God and the healthcare workers of Qatar for his recovery, Dr Muthanna al Salhi said he decided to go to the HMC’s Communicable Disease Center when he lost his sense of smell and taste, three days after he developed flu-like symptoms.
“A medical team was sent to my house to do the necessary tests to make sure that no one else in my family is infected,” Dr Salhi said.
During the treatment period, he said he was given five different medications that were used for other epidemics.
“I took the medicines that included antibiotics and those given to malaria and HIV patients.”
It took around six days for Dr Salhi to get his health back. He said he was tested for COVID-19 seven days after the treatment began and once again 24 hour later.
“Once I had my recovery results, according to the procedures, I had to isolate myself for 14 days before going back to my family,” he said.
Having successfully fought and defeated the virus, Dr Salhi urged the people to follow the instructions of the Ministry of Public Health and stay at home as far as possible.
