This is the perfect time of the year to do some planet hunting. According to the Qatar Calender House people in Qatar will be able to spot five planets — Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and Mars — during the month.
In a statement, the QCH said Jupiter, Saturn and Mars will be visible to people in Qatar in the dawn while Venus and Mercury will appear in the dusk.
The five planets will be approaching the Moon at different times during May.
Jupiter and Saturn will align with Moon on the dawn of Tuesday and Wednesday (May 12 and 13). Qatar residents will have a good chance to see the two planets and the Moon with naked eyes or with astronomical telescopes over the eastern horizon of Qatar dawn sky from midnight Tuesday and Wednesday until the sunrise, QCH's astronomer Dr. Beshir Marzouk said.
On the dawn of Friday (May 15), Mars will be close to the Moon, at three degrees north of Moon's centre. They will appear over the eastern horizon on Friday from 12:41am (Doha local time) until sunrise on Friday.
Dr Marzouk said Mercury and Venus will be approaching Moon on the evening of Sunday. They will be visible over the western horizon after sunset . Planet watchers must choose places without light and environment pollutions to see Mercury.
