The streets under lockdown in Industrial Area will be reopened in a staggered fashion, with Streets 1, 2 and Wakalat St to be opened on Wednesday, Supreme Committee for Crisis Management Spokesperson Lolwah Rashid Al Khater said in a press conference on Monday.

Work is also going on to lift restrictions on other streets in the coming days, she added. Streets 1 to 32 of Industrial Area is under lockdown since last month after a surge in confirmed cases of coronavirus in the area. While movements in and out are heavily restricted, supply runs for food, medicines and other essential items are allowed.
Addressing the current coronavirus situation in Qatar, Khater said Qatar has one of the lowest fatality rate among the COVID-19 infected people. While more than 6,000 have been tested positive, nine have succumbed to the virus so far.
More than 90 percent of the infections in Qatar are mild, she said, adding that only 1 percent are in critical conditions.
Khater said the most recent infections were discovered among people under quarantine and were not community-based, suggesting the efficacy of containment measures.
The health system in Qatar is still able to absorb more cases, she noted, adding that the recent spike in daily COVID-19 cases was due the implementation of a pre-emptive testing strategy. This method seeks to detect infections early and transmission rate.
The Ministry of Public Health has an integrated team to investigate infected and suspected cases to be able to stop the spread and conduct a proactive examination, she added.
