The Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital in Doha Industrial Area has been turned into an exclusive facility for treating patients with coronavirus (COVID-19), the Hamad Medical Corporation said on Monday.
The hospital will mostly treat patients with moderate to severe symptoms of the disease.
The hospital now has 147 beds, including 42 in intensive care unit and 105 in the inpatient ward. It will increase its capacity to 471 beds soon, with 221 in the ICU and 250 in the inpatient ward.
It will also have a provision to treat up to 150 emergency COVID-19 cases soon.
Minister of Public Health HE Dr Hanan Mohamed al Kuwari said the rapid transformation of the Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital into a facility for treating patients with COVID-19 is an example of the proactive approach the health-care sector is taking to face the epidemic.
“We started to move quickly from the beginning, and we worked to set standards through decisions without any delay, and this is exactly what we need to tackle the fast-spreading Coronavirus,” she said.
The minister expressed her pride at the efforts made to equip the Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital to serve as a facility to provide high-quality care to the COVID-19 patients.
Patients infected with Coronavirus / Covid-19 virus with moderate to severe symptoms will be admitted to Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital, where they will receive the necessary treatment while under constant surveillance.
Dr Saad al Kaabi of the Hazm Mebaireek hospital said the decision was part of the pre-emptive plan that the health care sector is running to ensure that any possible increase in the number of patients who develop coronary disease is managed.
He pointed out that Hazm Mabrik General Hospital was specifically chosen to treat patients (Covid-19) because it is considered the latest at the level of Hamad Medical Corporation hospitals, as the hospital will provide a modern and advanced environment that provides treatment for Corona patients, men and women of all nationalities.
