Harbour innovation projects that seek to build over 1,000 berths for private boats will boost marine transportation and water tourism in Qatar.  The ongoing construction of berths in Al Ruwais, Al Khor, Al Zakhira and Al Wakra under the guidelines of Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC) is expect to be complete shortly.
Speaking to Qatar Tribune, an official who supervise the construction of berths at the Al Khor Harbour said, “The preliminary works for the construction has already completed and nearly 50 berths for private boats will be completed in three or four months."
The tour operators assume that the projects being implemented by MoTC in association with the Fisheries Department of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) will open a potential market for water tourism and marine transportation.  The project executed on public-private partnership will offer a solution for anchoring the growing number of private ships and boats registered under MOTC.
The eco-friendly project with the highest safety and quality standards and equipped with the latest and appropriate facilities of global standards and specifications to protect the boats from risks in cases of storms.  The new berthing spaces to be allocated to ship and boat owners will not be at the same spaces currently being used by ships and boats which belong to fishermen, but rather will be adjacent to them.
