Vodafone Qatar on Monday announced that its 5G network now covers 70 percent of Doha including key locations across the country.
“The roll-out continues to expand and we are expected to cover entire Qatar with our 5G network before the start of the 2022 Fifa World Cup. This will undoubtedly place Qatar among the ranks of the world’s most connected countries,” Vodafone Qatar Chief Executive Officer Sheikh Hamad Abdulla al Thani said at an event to announce the company’s leading role in the rapid roll-out of 5G in Qatar.
Vodafone Qatar Brand Ambassador Mohammed Saadon al Kuwari unveiled the company’s new 5G coverage map on the occasion.
Among the locations where Vodafone Qatar’s 5G network is live are Al Rayyan, Al Aziziya, Al Hilal, Al Gharaffa, Al Sadd, Al Wakrah, Abu Hamour, Nuaija, Education City, Khartiyat, Mamoura, Msheireb, Old Airport, The Pearl, Thumama, Umm Salal and West Bay.
The company also launched the country’s first ‘Unlimited 5G Plans’ offering mobile users in Qatar to take advantage of unprecedented 5G speed in the country.
“Just over a year ago, Vodafone Qatar switched on its 5G network. Since then we have been rapidly rolling out this advanced technology that promises to change the way we live and work,” Sheikh Hamad said.
“It was a significant achievement for us to be part of the initial wave of 5G rollout globally and among the first operators in the world to go live with 5G commercially,” he said.
“We achieved many firsts in the course of 5G roll-out. We connected the first 5G customers in Qatar, conducted the first mobile call in the region and the first live hologram. We delivered the first 5G handsets, and became the first telecommunications company in Qatar to launch commercial 5G products and services,” he said.
“Vodafone Qatar was also the first to bring 5G into a house with GigaHome,” he said.
Continuing with the company’s remarkable run of firsts, he said, “Today we are unveiling country’s first ‘Unlimited 5G Plans’ that set new standards for the industry.”
Vodafone Qatar’s three new ‘Unlimited 5G’ plans are available in both consumer and business variants. The plans - Unlimited 300, Unlimited 450, and Unlimited VIP 750- are designed to enable both consumer and business customers to use 5G speeds and never run out of data while in Qatar.
On top of unlimited data, customers can enjoy unlimited local calls and SMS, worry-free data roaming in up to 120 countries and up to 500 international calls, which in the business variant could also be used to receive roaming calls, at no extra cost.
Exclusive rewards and privileges are additional with each plan including Qmiles and valet parking.
Speaking on the occasion, Vodafone Qatar Chief Operating Officer Diego Camberos said, “To celebrate the launch of our new ‘Unlimited 5G plans’, customers can now take advantage of a special offer and receive a QR50 discount on Unlimited 300 or Business Unlimited 300 and Unlimited 450 or Business Unlimited 450 for six months, valid until December 31st, 2019.”
Vodafone Qatar first made 5G commercially available in April this year, with the launch of its innovative home internet solution ‘GigaHome’ that guarantees wi-fi in every room, whatever the size of the house, using a state-of-the-art wi-fi Hub powered by Vodafone’s GigaNet network.
The business version for office use, GigaBusiness, was launched shortly after. With the significant expansion of Vodafone Qatar’s 5G network, customers that subscribe to GigaHome will receive 2 months free. In addition, business customers will save QR200 per month for 12 months when they sign up for GigaBusiness 100 mbps.
