TOTAL Qatar has collaborated with Karwa Driving School (KDS) of Mowasalat Company, the Traffic Department and Audi to organise a 'Safe Driver' exhibition offering various theoretical and practical safe driving presentations.
The event was inaugurated by Laurent Wolffsheim, managing director of Total E&P Golfe.
Total's Safe Driver Campaign was developed by its headquarters in France and was spread across all of its 130 affiliates worldwide with the objectives of raising awareness about road risks, highlighting the basic driving rules and stressing the importance of respecting them while encouraging change in practices and behaviours.
"On behalf of Total, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our partners from Traffic Department, Mowasalat Company (Karwa), Engineering Solution Company and Audi for their contribution to the success of our event," said Wolffsheim.
He added:"Safety is a core value at Total and we take any opportunity to reinforce our safety culture. We believe that roadway tragedies are preventable. If we can save lives, prevent injuries and improve public safety by emphasising the importance of sharing the road safely and being conscious, then the Safe Driver programme helps us do that."
Jassim al Khayat, Mowasalat acting executive director of Corporate Support & Technology Services Development, said:"Mowasalat is happy to participate in this event in collaboration with the Traffic Department as part of its social responsibility as the major public transport operator in Qatar and major stakeholder under Ministry of Transport & Communications.
"Our participation in this event is part of the company's responsibilities towards the Qatari community to promote the culture of safe driving and within the company's partnerships with the public and the private sectors in Qatar."
He added:"Karwa Driving School of Mowasalat adopts the latest technology and advanced driving simulators for training its drivers and drivers of the public and private sectors, and grants them international competency certificates in safe driving. Mowasalat has a workforce of over 6,000 drivers for different types of light and heavy vehicles, who work around the clock across Qatar roads."
On his part, Captain Ali Rashed al Azba, head of Traffic Studies and Information Section, Traffic Information and Awareness Department, said:"It is a pleasure to participate in the traffic safety day organised by Total to educate the company's employees on the traffic safety rules. We appreciate this initiative by Total to raise awareness of its employees and we wish all companies follow the same and spread traffic awareness."
He expressed delight over the content of the traffic awareness exhibition held on the sidelines of the event, providing important information about traffic safety rules in terms of tires, brakes, airbags and other safety measures that must be met in each vehicle.
Operations Manager at Engineering Solutions Raffat Zreik said:"Engineering Solutions is proud to have been a part of this event, which comes as under the 'One Second' campaign launched in December 2013. Our commitment is to help save lives on Qatar's roads by developing a local road safety culture and transforming drivers into road safety ambassadors."
