QATAR Computer Emergency Response Team (Q-CERT), at the Ministry of Transport and Communications, organised a workshop titled 'Communication management in the times of crisis' recently.
The workshop was held to introduce best practices to manage internal and external communication at a time of crisis that public and private sectors institutions might be exposed to.
The workshop, which was attended by more than 300 participants from various sectors of the country, is part of a series of preparatory workshops being held by Q-CERT to prepare participants for the fifth national cyber-maneuvres (star 5) to be organised by the Ministry of Transport and Communications next month, a statement from the Ministry said.
It provided an interactive experience for participants on how to manage communication at the time of crisis by experiencing simulations of different crisis models that may be exposed to their institutions.
The participants also learned about how to design a communication strategy including messages to be addressed at the time of the crisis and how to identify the target audience as well as the means to be used to disseminate these support messages in addition to the best ways to communicate with different parties.
The workshop also provided the audience with a number of mistakes that should be avoided when communicating with media professionals in times of crisis, as well as how to manage the press conference at the time of crisis, including the language and tone to be used.
It stressed the importance of conducting frequent exercises on how to manage crises for sustained development, capacity building, information and lessons learned and taking the necessary steps to reduce the negative impact of crises.
