SSLSD recently held the Junior Sports Meet for its little athletes in the presence of Chairman Kumudu Fonseka and its Board of Trustees.
Sports is an integral part of education at SSLSD and is pivotal in moulding students to become rounded individuals both physically and mentally. Students are encouraged to engage in a variety of sports as early as the pre-primary stage by making physical education a part of the curriculum.
The skills attained during their training, were on show at the junior sports meet of the school. The event comprised several group events like Fun Games, Obstacle Race, Sack Race, Baton Relay etc. All the students from Grades 1 to 4 participated in these events, representing the three sport houses of the school: Emerald, Topaz and Garnet.
The meet was attended by parents who were delighted to watch the performances of their children.
Amidst the tough competition, Emerald House emerged overall winner of the meet, while Topaz became First-Runners up and Garnet being Second-Runners up. The success of the event can be attributed to the teamwork and sportsmanship of the students as well as the cooperation of teachers and parents along with the generosity of sponsors McDonalds.
