Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) has selected 16 participants to compete in this year's 'Qatar Strongest Man' competition after showcasing remarkable strength and speed in the assessment process.
Now in its fifth year, the competition will take place at Aspire Park Friday and Saturday, November 24 and 25 from 4pm until 9:30 pm.
The 16 participants qualified to compete this year were chosen after successfully completing a series of rigorous physical and health tests that assessed their fitness levels.
The fastest participants to complete 200-kg-weight lifts and a 20-metre walk while carrying 120 kg weights in each arm qualified to the final round. This year's competition welcomes defending champions, two-time winners Fahad al Haddad (Qatar) and Christopher Oketch (Kenya) and 2014 Qatar Strongest Man champion Talal al Kuwari (Qatar).
Building on the success of the previous years, AZF has extended the duration of the competition to two days instead of one and has increased the number of participants to 16.
Competitors will be divided into two groups of eight; one group for Qatar nationals and the other is open for expatriates. The expatriates will compete on the first day of the competition, Friday, November 24, while the Qatari nationals will compete on the second day, Saturday, November 25.
On the sidelines of the competition, AZF will organise various activities for community members of all ages to enjoy with their family and friends in Aspire Park and will set up four food trucks near the competition area.
These include games such as Dragon Punch and King of the Hammer, two bed bungee trampolines and obstacle courses for children.
The Qatar Strongest Man is an annual competition that enables Qatari and expatriate sports enthusiasts who are passionate about strength training to take part in a number of challenges, including truck pulling, deadlifting, lifting sand bags, flipping giant tyres and car lifting to name but a few. Winners are decided based on a points-system, with the winner being awarded based on the speed and weight with which each challenge is completed.
