The Qatari government has taken additional measures to guarantee workers' rights, said Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs HE Dr Issa bin Saad al Jafali al Nuaimi.
He was commenting on the recent decision of the International Labour Organization (ILO) to close a compliant against Qatar.
The minister said the new labour reform measures include the formation of a committee to settle labour disputes, which will resolve disputes within three weeks and free of charge," has said.
"Another measure is the setting up of a fund to pay workers' dues in case their companies fail to pay," he added.
"A common committee between employer and employees will be formed at companies which have more than 30 workers. The employer will choose half of the members of the committee and the rest will be chosen by the employees. These committees will act as a link between the employer, employees and the Ministry of Labour, in case there are any demands from the workers. It will protect the rights of the workers and their dignity," the minister said.
"If the number of workers is between 30 and 200, the committee will have four members and if it is between 200 and 500 the committee will have six members. If the number of workers exceeds 500, there will be eight members in the committee," he added.
In addition, there was a cabinet decision to form a national committee to fight human trafficking. Different authorities concerned in the state of Qatar will be represented in this committee which will train the concerned representatives on the legal adaptation of the cases.
Besides, there was issued a law on domestic workers which defines the rights and obligations of the maids which includes the time of work and rest, indemnity, annual paid vacation, he said.
Commenting on doubts about the ability of Qatar to host the 2022 World Cup, the minister said,"The ILO decision proved that Qatar is among the top nations to care about the labours rights although of the challenges that faces many states.
Responding on a question about the campaigns that targets Qatar on the labour rights, he said,"Qatar don't deal with campaigns. The state of Qatar deals with real achievements and with protection for labours.
