South African President Jacob Zuma on Tuesday met with Qatar's Minister of State for Defence Affairs HE Dr Khalid bin Mohammed al Attiyah.
Talks during the meeting dealt with the bilateral relations and ways of enhancing mutual cooperation in the defence sector.
They also discussed the possibility of exchanging military expertise and training courses to serve the common interests of the two friendly countries, as well as the possibility of investing the Qatari armed forces in the"Denel" group for military manufacturing.
Talks during the meeting also touched upon the current situation in the Gulf region and its impact on all parties, and the efforts of the two countries in the fight against terrorism and extremism. The meeting was attended by Qatar's Ambassador to South Africa HE Abdullah Hussein al Jaber.
At the outset of the meeting, the minister conveyed the greetings of the Emir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and his wishes to Zuma and South Africa. For his part, the South African president entrusted the minister to convey his greetings to the Emir, wishing His Highness the best of health, and the people of Qatar further progress and prosperity.
