The Emir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani on Wednesday graced the 21st anniversary celebrations of Al Jazeera Network, with a focus on the channel's achievements in 2017 and future projects to be launched by the network.
In his speech on the occasion, Chairman of Al Jazeera Network Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer al Thani praised the Emir's continued support for the network, describing Sheikh Tamim's statement a few days ago in an interview to CBS channel that Qatar will not close Al Jazeera as the biggest support for station.
Sheikh Hamad stressed Al Jazeera remains committed to the principles on which it was launched 21 years ago.
He said that those who want Al Jazeera to be closed are out to suppress free speech and deprive people of access to knowledge and accurate information.
Sheikh Hamad added that Al Jazeera will soon launch digital platforms for mobile phones in international languages, including French, and will also launch its website in Chinese and Indonesian.
