The Emir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani held official talks with Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni at the Emiri Diwan on Wednesday.
They discussed bilateral ties between the two nations and ways to enhance them, especially in energy, economy and investment sectors.
They also reviewed the regional and international developments, including the GCC crisis and Libya.
The talks also touched on the counter-terrorism efforts by both countries and ways to end financing of terrorism.
Gentiloni stressed his country's commitment to enhancing cooperation with Qatar in all fields.
He also expressed hope that his visit will mark the beginning of a new phase of advanced cooperation. He thanked the Emir for the contribution of Qatar Fund for Development to the rebuilding efforts in the areas damaged by recent earthquakes in Italy.
Earlier, the Italian prime minister was accorded an official reception at the Emiri Diwan.
The Emir also hosted a luncheon banquet in honour of the Italian prime minister and the accompanying delegation. A number of Qatari ministers attended the banquet.
The Italian prime minister arrived in Doha on Wednesday morning. He was welcomed at Hamad International Airport by Minister of Finance HE Ali Shareef al Emadi.
The Emir also met the members of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of Italy at the Emiri Diwan.
They exchanged views on a number of topics of common interest.
The meeting was attended by Speaker of the Advisory Council HE Mohammed bin Mubarak al Khulaifi.
Gentiloni left Doha on Wednesday evening. He was seen off at Hamad International Airport by HE Emadi, Qatar's Ambassador to Italy HE Abdulaziz bin Ahmad al Malki al Jehani and Italy's Ambassador to Qatar HE Pasquale Salzano.
