Birla Public School (BPS) held two career guidance and counselling sessions for Class 9 and 11 students and their parents one in class mode and the other one-on-one interaction. BPS organises such interactions every year. This year, the one-on-one session is the new development.
The objective of these interactions was to guide the students in ways they could be more effective in their studies as well as how they could go about exploring their career interests. During the sessions, an assessment was done of the students' academic and extracurricular performance to identify their strengths and weaknesses on which customised strategies for effective study were recommended.
Recommendations were also made on personal qualities and traits that could be developed in the students which would add to their strengths and support them in future endeavours. The sessions also uncovered the students' career interests and ways were suggested to students to obtain more knowledge and a first-hand feel of the careers that interest them.
BPS tied up with Admizzionz Campuz, a leading provider of career guidance and college admission assistance in India with offices in New Delhi and Chennai, in conducting the sessions. Admizzionz Campuz had earlier in the week conducted a workshop for the students of Class IX and their parents to familiarise them with different career options that exist in different domains and professions.
A team consisting of six senior counselors Anupam Srivastava, Harminder Kaur, Uma Gopalakrishnan, Manmeet Kashyap, Joyeeta Paul and Pradeep Narayanan from Admizzionz Campuz conducted the counselling sessions.
"We felt it was essential that our students discover their potential and come up with methods they can use to cope with the new scheme of teaching and assessment," said Principal AP Sharma."More importantly, we felt that students should start exploring their career interests from Class IX so that when they come to Class X they are in a position to firm up their career options and choose subjects of study for Classes XI and XII and later in college. So we have tied up with one of the best career and college admission counselling organisations in India to facilitate this programme."
