US President Donald Trump and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong witnessed the signing of an agreement Monday by Singapore Airlines to purchase 13.8 billion dollars of jets from US aircraft maker Boeing.
The leaders were holding talks at the White House on cooperation between the United States and the small Asian nation on economic, trade and defence issues, as Trump prepares for a 12-day trip to Asia next month.
Singapore Airlines has agreed to purchase 39 aircraft, in a deal Lee called a"win for both sides."
Lee urged Trump to pursue good trade relations with the region, touting his own nation's purchase of US goods as well as those of regional behemoth China, noting"good US-China relations will benefit the region and the world."
Trump praised Singapore as a"magnet for business" and lauded Lee for commitment to"fair and reciprocal trade."
Trump withdrew the US from the Trans Pacific Partnership trade deal among 12 Pacific rim nations, including Singapore, shortly after taking office in January.
