Manila The North Korean nuclear threat, the spread of ISIS-linked terrorism and the South China Sea dispute will all be discussed as ASEAN defence ministers meet on~Monday in the Philippines. In addition to Monday's meeting, another will be held on Tuesday between the ASEAN defence ministers as well as those from Japan, China, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, India, Russia and the United States.
The meetings come as the Philippines is making a final push to end hostilities between government forces and ISIS-linked terrorists in Marawi City in the country's south.
Cooperation on maritime security, counter-terrorism, humanitarian assistance and disaster response and cybersecurity will all be discussed.
"We will be coming up with frameworks for maritime interaction, education and training exchanges, aircraft encounters, among others," Philippine Defence Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said.
ASEAN is made up of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
