Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) will open representative offices this year in India and Russia, which are large markets for tourists, head of marketing and promotion at QTA Rashed al Quraisi has said.
QTA has already opened nine promotional offices across the world and launched 260 global promotional campaigns, Quraisi said in a press statement.
Last month, QTA opened its first representative office in China along with two branch offices in Shanghai and Guangzhou. This coincided with China's official recognition of Qatar as a tourist destination, allowing Qatar to receive Chinese tourists and run promotional campaigns in China.
India, Russia and China are among the 80 countries whose citizens have been exempted from entry visas to Qatar.
Since the launch of the first phase of Qatar's national strategy for tourism sector, the country has received more than 10 million visitors, Quraisi said, adding that the total contribution of tourism to GDP has increased to 6.7 percent.
The new phase of the strategy includes a development plan to attract more global tourists to the country and expand the network of representative offices across the world to promote Qatar tourism.
