A mural containing the names of Scientific Excellence Award winners in the country in the past 10 years was unveiled by the Minister of Education and Higher Education HE Dr Mohammed bin Abdul Wahed al Hammadi at Katara Cultural Village on Monday.
"The honouring of scientific excellence is an outcome of Qatar's continuing investment in the human potential, which is a top priority for the country. These outstanding students represent Qatar's resources for a prominent future," Hammadi said, stressing the importance of continuously encouraging them to unleash their talent and achieve a knowledge economy that the country is seeking.
The minister urged students to play a greater role in promoting sustainable development in economic, social, and environmental sectors, and to persist with their efforts until they become creative leaders. He emphasised the ministry's commitment to supporting the creativity and inner potential of Qatar's young generations.
Executive President of the Scientific Excellence Award Dr Hamda al Sulaiti said the mural honours the winners of the Scientific Excellence Award, which is one of the most prestigious academic awards at the national level.
She added,"We hope that the mural will contribute to spreading awareness of the award and the culture of excellence among our beloved country's people whom we rely on to build Qatar's present and bright future. We also want the mural to be a motivating force for Qatar's men and women to have their names added to the group of scientifically excellent individuals."
President of the Executive Committee of the Award Hassan al Mohammadi said that the mural reflects the advancement of the educational system in Qatar as well as its people's proficiency in free and creative scientific research. He added,"We are proud of these 427 award-winning preparatory, secondary and university students as well as the PhD holders, teachers and schools."
Mohammadi stressed the importance of supporting academic achievement, which is a mutual responsibility shared by the public and private sectors, in addition to the civil society institutions. He noted that building a strong partnership between these parties is crucial, since the outcomes of excellence serve the public interest of the entire nation.
A number of officials and public figures attended the inauguration, including HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al Thani and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education HE Rabia Mohamed al Kaabi.
