Qatar has overcome the impact of the siege imposed on the country by the Saudi-led group, Minister of Transport and Communications HE Jassim bin Saif Ahmed al Sulaiti has reaffirmed.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) is planning to build an integrated transport system, which will be mostly self-reliant, the minister said on the sidelines of the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Qatar Foundation for Social Work and the MoTC. A call centre and a hotline for the Protection and Social Rehabilitation Center (Aman) were also inaugurated at the function.
The transport system will get assistance from other countries that Qatar has agreements with, the minister said.
The transport and communications sector has contributed significantly to Qatar's efforts to overcome the impact of the siege. The MoTC, in a quick response to the blockade, successfully opened maritime and air routes with other countries with the cooperation of other ministries, Sulaiti pointed out.
"Qatar Airways established quick transport links with major ports in Oman, India, China and Pakistan, as well as with other major destinations. The ministry, with the help of latest technology and systems, connected Hamad Port with 57 international ports in the region and beyond," the minister added.
Qatar Airways is still expanding its links at a steady pace and the second batch of the metro trains has arrived in Doha, while the third batch is on the way, the minister added.
