MORE than 45 males and females aged 16 to 26 have been shortlisted to receive communication and leadership trainings through the annual Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) Youth Service Clubs-Leadership Training 2017 programme, running from October to March 2018.
It is a five-month programme divided into three phases and aims to leverage the participants' goal setting capacity and team work enabling them to network with peers and pro-actively work to form ROTA youth service clubs. The programme will start with a four-day intensive training from October 25 to 28.
The programme also aims at helping Qatari youth chart their career paths and preparing them to become qualified ambassadors for Qatar and ROTA at international conventions.
Speaking at a press conference held in Education City on Tuesday, ROTA Community Development Manager Abdulla al Bakri said the shortlisted participants were thoroughly chosen from a large pool of applications they received online. Participants will comprise high school and university students who are interested in setting up a social development club or joining the ROTA Youth Network.
He added that the workshops will cover a diverse range of topics that are timely and relevant to the development of crucial skills of Qatari and resident youth such as core leadership, project management, advocacy and community service skills.
"We are covering anything related to education, supporting environment, sports for development or skills development. There are different areas that the participants can choose from when it comes to projects that they can work on later. Also we encourage them to use the Millennium Development Goals. We always encourage our youth to think globally and to act locally. We welcome any idea but they have to adopt it locally. During the Empower Youth Conference next year, there will be more elements focusing on how Qatari and resident youth can work together," said Bakri.
He added that the first phase of the new edition of the annual Youth Leadership Programme featuring a four-day intensive training will equip youth participants with vital skills to go on to make their voices heard on global humanitarian issues and positively contribute to their communities.
"This year's participants have demonstrated eagerness to make a difference to the world around them and I am confident that once they have completed the programme, they will be empowered to become responsible global citizens capable of shaping the future for generations to come," added Bakri.
ROTA will showcase distinguished projects following the successful completion of the programme of ROTA's Empower Youth Conference in March, 2018.
Also present at the press conference were ROTA Youth Club representatives Saif Amer Alsawadi and Noora Faisal al Thani.
